OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING

The training in Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities is for all seafarers employed of engaged in any capacity on board ship on the business of that ship as part of the ship’s compliment with designated safety of pollution-prevention duties.  The objectives of the training are to ensure that all seafarers can take responsibility for their own safety whilst looking out for the safety of others as well as protection of the marine environment from pollution associated with ships.

The course is open to all persons who intend serving on board seagoing vessels and must be of a minimum age of 16 years.

OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING

The training in Personal Survival Techniques is for all Seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board ship on the business of that ship as part of the ship’s complement including some Port Operations vessels.  The objective of the training is so that all seafarers understand the basic survival techniques required to survive the perils of the sea.  The objectives and outcomes of the training should be that candidates can : Survive ate sea in the event of ship abandonment, Identify emergency situations, identify life-saving equipment normally carried on ships, identify and use equipment found in the survival craft, locates personal life-saving appliances, understand the principles concerning survival at sea.

Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting

OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING

The training in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting is for all Seafarers employed or in engaged in any capacity on board ship on the business of that ship as part of the ship’s complement including some Port Operations vessels.  The objective of the training is so that all seafarers understand the dangers of fire and are able to take preventive measures against fires as well as responding to emergency situations involving fire.

Medical First Aid

OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING

The training of Medical First Aid is for all seafarers who are designated to provide medical first aid onboard Seagoing Vessels and Some Port operations vessels. The objective of the training is so that seafarers may take immediate and effective actions in the case of accidents of illness likely to occur onboard:  Take immediate action upon encountering an accident of other medical emergency, apply immediate first aid in the event of accident of illness on board

Advanced Fire Fighting

The course is open to all persons who intend serving on board seagoing vessels and must be of a minimum age of 16 years.

OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING

The training in Advanced Fire Fighting is for all officers on Seagoing Vessels and some Port Operations vessels, and who are designated to control fire fighting operations on board the vessel. The objectives and outcomes of the training should be that candidates can; Control fire-fighting operations on board the ship; Organise and train fire parties; Inspect, as well as possibly service some fire detection and fire extinguishing systems and equipment; Investigate and compile reports on incidents involving fires. 

This training includes components of Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, STA-06-102 in order to align the two courses for officers who are required to comply with both requirements.

Designated Security Duties

The course is open to all persons who intend serving on board seagoing vessels and must be of a minimum age of 16 years.

OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING

The training in DSD is for all seafarers who are designated to perform security duties, including anti-piracy and anti-armed-robbery-related activities, on seagoing g vessels which are required to comply with the requirements of the ISPS Code.  The objective of the training is to ensure that the seafarer can perform security duties.

Basic Oil & Chemical Tanker Familiarisation

Pre-requisites for entry into the course

To be accepted for the course in Basic training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations, candidates shall have completed training in Basic Training (PST, EFA, FP&FF and PSSR)

OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING

The training in Basic training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations is for all Officers and Crew employed onboard an Oil or a Chemical Tanker who has been assigned duties and responsibilities related to cargo or cargo equipment. The objective of the training is so that can perform their tasks and duties onboard an Oil or Chemical tanker safely. The objectives and outcomes of the training should be that candidates can:

Contribute to the safe cargo operation of oil and chemical tankers.

Take precautions to prevent hazards.

Apply occupational health and safety precautions and measures.

Carry out firefighting operations.

Respond to emergencies.

Take precautions to prevent pollution of the environment from the release of oil or chemicals.

Candidates, before being accepted into this course, shall meet the following requirements:

Proficiency in the English language, both written and spoken

Candidates shall at least be 16 years of age

The education and training for Radio Operators shall be sufficient for radio operators to carry out their radio duties. Transmit and receive information using GMDSS subsystems and equipment and fulfilling the functional requirements of GMDSS. Provide radio services in emergencies
